WHEAT BAG HEATING & COOLING INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT
Keep instructions with your wheat bag. READ – before each use.
Not recommended for people who may have reduced awareness of temperature or feeling in their skin. It is important to carefully follow these instructions as overheating or inappropriate use may result in injury or fire.
Do not place the wheat bags under blankets, this traps the heat and can cause a fire.
HOW TO HEAT YOUR WHEATBAG
- Place the wheat bag in the centre of the microwave ensuring it does not obstruct the turntable. Make sure the wheatbag is flat. Bigger wheat bags can be folded to fit on the turntable without obstruction.
- Always stay by the microwave when heating your wheat bag.
- If your wheat bag is filled with wheat you need to place a glass of water in the microwave while heating, so the wheat doesn’t get overly dry and become combustible.
- For Lupin-filled wheat bags, you do not need to heat them with a glass of water as Lupin is non-combustible.
- Remove the wheat bag carefully from the microwave. The wheat bag will be hot after heating, handle it with care.
- Gently shake the wheat bag. Check the temperature is comfortable before use.
- Allow the wheat bag to cool completely before reheating.
- Before storing your wheat bag allow it to cool completely on a non-combustible surface such as a kitchen sink. Then store your wheat bag in a dry clean location such as a draw or hot water cupboard.
WHEATBAG HEATING TIMES
The following heating times are suggestions but they will vary depending on your microwave and the wattage you use along with your own heat tolerance. We suggest you start with the lower heating times and if you want the wheat bag hotter, then heat it in 30-second increments until you find your ideal temperature. Once you have heated the wheat bag a few times you will know what is the right heating time for you and your microwave.

OVERHEATING
If overheating occurs there may be a burning smell or charring and in extreme cases smoking. These all indicate that irreversible grain deterioration has occurred. Immediately place the wheat bag on a non-combustible surface such as the sink and allow it to cool completely before disposing of it.
100% cotton wheat bags are biodegradable and compostible.
TO USE AS A COLD COMPRESS
Wheat bags can be used as an ice pack or cold compress.
To use your wheat bag chilled, place it in a purpose-made cotton freezer bag, you can purchase on our website or place the wheat bag in a container and then pop it in the freezer for at least 45 mins.
Wheat bags can be stored in the freezer without damage.
Using a chilled wheat bag is perfect for reducing swelling and inflammation.
STORAGE, CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Make sure the wheat bag is completely cool and moisture free before storing it with these instructions in a cool dry place, like a draw or hot water cupboard.
Spot clean only with a damp cloth. DO NOT wash and DO NOT immerse in water.
It is recommended the wheat bag be heated at least once a month for maintenance and be replaced if there is any sign of wear and tear, or if the wheat bag smells like the filling has been overheated.
SAFETY WARNINGS
- DO NOT overheat
- DO NOT use it if the wheat bag smells or looks burnt.
- DO NOT leave a wheat bag unattended in the microwave in case of fire.
- DO NOT use straight from the microwave if too hot – allow it to cool first.
- USE WITH CAUTION – wheat bags can burn the skin when used incorrectly.
- DO NOT put it under bedding and blankets as it may spontaneously ignite.
